the decline of society

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Yes I've been largely absent from posting, and for that I apologize to my 3 somewhat dedicated readers. I took the opportunity to have a bit of a break, and of course, partake in the sacred Canadian winter tradition: watching the world juniors.

I hope you got fun, exciting presents for Christmas (if that's your thing). Or at least, a fun exciting sock, tie, odd ornamental piece you're not sure if you'll ever take out of your closet of "stuff" again.

I Hate Christmas. And am Ambivalent Towards Digg

I know it's somewhat fashionable to hate on Digg, and admittedly, it hasn't been in my RSS reader* for many years now. In case you don't believe me, I recently completed a scientific survey** via Google to prove my point.

Unit testing telemarketers

I've added some unit tests for the code I posted, I'll try to make sure all code comes with tests (free!) from here on in. I'm working on an update to this site that will allow for easier viewing of code, an event which should prove to be wondrous and exciting!

In completely unrelated news, my local news paper started me on a free 3 week trial today. Despite the whole dead tree thing, I have to admit I do enjoy the simplicity of reading over a paper with coffee, it is truly one of the great joys in life.

You, yoo, and yu

How do you know you are out of shape? Perhaps when you seriously consider bringing oxygen canisters the next time you play in an ultra casual dodgeball game.

The SO and I were talking last night, and as she's apt to do, her random thought of the night was that the word "you" needs more variations.

As we got to discussing this, I realized that I often clarified my use of the word by saying things like "you, in the global sense" or a less eloquent "you, as in not you, but a generic you", and of course there's the default you as in, "person I am currently engaged in conversation with".
